2023 Applications now OPEN

There are 3 categories of award with individual eligibility rules. 

All projects MUST have been undertaken within the HENE region.

Each of the three awards has a fixed value of £200. This is paid via cheque / BACS to a single winner in each category. Runner up awards can be made at the Director’s discretion on the day and are worth £100 per category runner up.

MEDICAL STUDENT

At the time of application, you must be a UK Medical Student.

JUNIOR DOCTOR

At the time of application, you must be a junior doctor, who has not yet commenced Core or ACCS training.

NON MEDICAL

At the time of application, you must be a non physician healthcare professional eg Nurse or Advanced Practitioner, employed by Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Foundation Trust. This is a local level award.

If you undertook a project as a medical student but are now a junior doctor eligible under the above rules, you should apply within the Medical Student category.

Project Criteria

Any audit, research, or quality improvement project undertaken within the North East, in one or more of the following disciplines:

Timeline

Applicants must adhere to the deadlines throughout this process.

Applications will be accepted via this website from Monday 22 May 2023 to Monday 7 August 2023.

A pre selected panel of senior clinicians will review and shortlist applications after this deadline.

Shortlisted applicants will be informed late August / early September and be invited to attend the Prize Day event at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne on the afternoon of Tuesday 19 September 2023.

This will be a face-to-face event for local applicants. Non local applicants will be offered a tele-conferencing option to present their work.
