There are 3 categories of award:

Junior Doctor

At the time of application, you must be a Northern Deanery Doctor who has not yet commenced Core or ACCS training.

Medical Student

At the time of application, you must be a Norther Deanery Medical Student.

Additionally, Non Northern Deanery Medical Students who have undertaken an Elective within the North East Region, during the period of time to which the Award pertains, may also apply.

Allied Healthcare Professional

At the time of application, you must be a non physician healthcare professional eg Nurse or Advanced Practitioner, employed by Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Foundation Trust. This is a local level award.


Value

Each of the three awards has a fixed value of £200. This is paid via cheque / BACS to a single winner in each category.


Project Criteria

Any audit, research, or quality improvement project undertaken in one or more of the following disciplines:

  • Anaesthesia
  • Critical Care
  • Perioperative Medicine
  • Pain Medicine

Process

Applicants must adhere to the deadlines throughout this process.

There will be a Prize Day event in September 2021. Covid permitting, this will be a face to face event with attendance mandated for local applicants.

Non local applicants will be offered a tele-conferencing option to present their work.


Timeline

Applications will be accepted via this website from Tuesday 4 May 2021 to Sunday 8 August 2021.

A pre selected panel of senior clinicians will review and shortlist applications after this deadline.

Shortlisted applicants will be informed late August / early September and be invited to attend the Prize Day event at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne on the afternoon of Tuesday 21 September 20201.
